This year, as always, we will be holding our annual Oxfam® Hunger Banquet the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 20.
Every year we talk about the problem of hunger and poverty around the world. During snack-time each child will have the chance to pull a different colored coin out of a bag. There are 3 different colors of coins used to represent a percentage of the world and it’s poverty level; the 3 levels being: poor, middle, and rich. The percentages of the the world that live in each class are explained to the children and they are asked to think about how we all live our lives on a daily basis.
- During snack-time each child will be provided a snack consisting of pasta. Different amounts of pasta and a choice of sauces/toppings will also be provided based on the class that each child is assigned from the chip that they drew at random.
- Every Tuesday during the month of November we have been sharing information with the children about the state of the world around us, through stories, videos and other types of informative discussion.
- This year, we will again be accepting donations, all of which will be going directly to support Oxfam® America. It is our hope that this will encourage students to take a more active level of participation in Oxfam®, fostering thought and conversation outside of the program, and providing students the opportunity to think and reflect on the message of Oxfam® when discussing donations with their parents. We will be accepting donations until the end of the month of November.
